Container Specifications

With regard to specification, we have three types of containers:

1. Dry Containers

Dry containers are standardized freight carriers that can transport general cargo from one location to another. Transportable goods that can be placed into a dry container can include household items or furniture.

2. Reefer Containers

Reefers are containers that have the ability to maintain their internal temperature at a stable level. These are the best option for transporting goods that are temperature sensitive.

A refrigeration unit is usually built into the container and is provided by a power supply to keep the cargo at a desired temperature. When the reefer container is placed on wheels, it is powered by a motor generator; when it is placed in a yard or a storage area, it is powered by a terminal; and when it is placed in the cargo hold of a ship, it is powered by the ship’s engine.

The container has a system of air ventilation built into it that circulates the air and keeps the temperature stable.

Reefer container are best for the transportation of perishable food items, such as, fish, meat, fruits, vegetables, eggs, etc. They also work well for cargo of pharmaceutical products.

3. Specialized Containers

For the safe transportation of waste or for the efficient transportation of natural resources, specialized containers can be used.

One type of specialized container can help to safely transmit resources from one area to another. The container is usually sealed to prevent wastage of resources and is usually loaded from the top.

Another kind of specialized container is used for the transference of waste and hazardous chemicals. In order to contain the chemicals and the waste, the container has to be quite durable so that the cargo can be transported safely without causing harm to the environment.

The transference of gases also requires specialized containers that can hold their cargo without any leaks or damage.

Overall, it is quite appropriate to say that each type of resource and waste product requires its own unique mode of transport and for that, a specialized container is used.

Open-top specialized containers usually allow cargo to be loaded into them from the top part of the container. This is very helpful for equipment that is either too bulky to fit through the doors or for goods that cannot be loaded through a door, like, liquids and gases.

Specialized containers can also be equipped with flat racks to enable easy storage and handling of the cargo. For instance, in order to transport long rods of steel, a flat rack specialized container can be used quite efficiently.
