-
Use a box/carton for all items to be shipped, including
shoes, small appliances, kitchen utensils, small electronic, books,
clothes, etc.
-
You should use new and unused boxes designed for
moving. Boxes obtained from grocery stores and similar establishments
are not meant to for shipping and may not withstand the weight of
the items stored in them.
-
Empty boxes, paper pads, bubble wraps, shrink-wrap,
mattress and other furniture covers, tape, etc. may be purchased
from a hardware store (e.g., Home Depot).
-
If possible, try to pack items in boxes, which are
no larger than 3 cu. feet for easy moving.
-
Use small boxes for heavy material and large boxes
for light material.
-
CDs, Video Cassettes, DVDs and photo negatives should
be packaged in plastic covers. Pictures should be placed in boxes
between sheets and blankets for added protection.
-
Make sure that all fragile items are wrapped with
bubble wrap or paper pad. Especially, crockery and china should
be wrapped piece by piece in single sheets of paper or unused newsprint
[regular newspaper may be used but it can soil the wrapped items].
-
Plates should be placed vertically in the box.
-
Remove light bulbs before packing lamps.
-
Caps and lids of medicine and toiletry items should
be tightly secured.
-
Ask the driver to load last the items that you need
first on arrival. Examples of these items are telephone, kettle
and coffee pot, toilet paper, flashlight, screwdriver, pots and
pans.
-
While unpacking, do so over the box/carton so that
in case of an accidental dropping, there is a reduced chance of
damage through breakage.
